How it works
Wedding sessions, in Melbourne
A wedding photographed as it happens looks like the day you actually had. The alternative — a day interrupted every twenty minutes to reassemble something that already went past — produces photographs of a wedding, but not of yours.
So the approach is documentary. I stay out of the way, and the frames come from what is in front of me: the ceremony, the people watching it, the hour nobody planned that everyone remembers afterwards.
There is room for the traditions that matter to your families, and for the formal photographs they will want. Those are worth doing properly and worth keeping brief, so the day keeps moving.
Everything is natural light wherever the day allows it, and you leave with a carefully edited set rather than every frame taken.

What people ask
How do you photograph a wedding day?
As it happens, rather than by directing it. I stay out of the way and photograph what is actually in front of me — the ceremony, the people watching it, and everything unplanned in between.
Will there be formal family photographs?
Yes, and there is room for the ones your families will want. Send me the list beforehand and we will keep them brief so the day keeps moving.
Can you make room for our cultural or religious traditions?
Yes, and it is worth talking through in detail before the day. Knowing what is coming, what it means and where I should be standing is the difference between photographing a tradition and interrupting one.
How far in advance should we book a wedding photographer?
As soon as you have a date. Weekend dates in the Melbourne season go a long way ahead, and there is only ever one of any given Saturday.
