How it works

Portrait sessions, in Melbourne

Most people have no photograph of themselves they like. Not a bad one: none at all, or one from a wedding they were a guest at, cropped down. A portrait session exists to fix exactly that.

It might be for a milestone, for work, or for nothing beyond wanting to see yourself the way the people who know you do. The reason changes what we make; it does not change how we work.

Sessions are unhurried and led by you. If being photographed makes you uncomfortable, that is normal and it is worth saying out loud at the start — we simply take longer, and the first frames of the day quietly become the ones nobody uses.

Everything is natural light: a studio, somewhere in Melbourne, or somewhere that already means something to you. You leave with a small, carefully edited set rather than a hard drive.

Before you book

What people ask

I hate being photographed. Should I still book a portrait session?

Almost everyone says this, and it changes nothing about how the session runs. It is unhurried and led by you, we talk far more than we shoot at the start, and the frames worth keeping arrive well after the point where most people expect them to.

Can portraits be used for work, LinkedIn or a website?

Yes. A portrait made for work is the same session with a different set of choices — the framing is tighter, the background is quieter, and we shoot for something that will still look right cropped square.

Where do portrait sessions happen?

A studio, somewhere in Melbourne, or somewhere that already means something to you. Natural light throughout, so the place and the hour are chosen together.

What should I bring?

Two or three things you already feel like yourself in, and no plans immediately afterwards. Nothing kills an unhurried session faster than somewhere else to be.
