How it works
Family sessions, in Melbourne
A family is a particular size and shape for a very short time. These are photographs of the one you are now: who is small, who is loud, who will not let go of whom.
Children are allowed to be children. Nobody is arranged into a row and asked to hold it, and the best frames almost always arrive a few minutes after everyone has stopped thinking about the camera — which is exactly why the session is unhurried rather than efficient.
We work in natural light, in a studio, somewhere in Melbourne, or somewhere that already means something to your family: a park you always end up at, a kitchen, a beach. Whichever it is, the photographs look like your life rather than like a backdrop.
You leave with a small, carefully edited set of photographs — the ones worth printing and keeping, rather than a hard drive you never open.

What people ask
Where do family sessions happen in Melbourne?
In a studio, somewhere in the city, or somewhere that already means something to you — a park you always end up at, a beach, your own home. Everything is natural light, so the place and the time of day are chosen together.
What if my children will not sit still?
Then we do not ask them to. Children are allowed to be children, and the frames that last almost always arrive once everyone has forgotten the camera is there. A restless child is not a problem to be solved.
What should we wear for family photos?
Clothes you would actually wear. Colours in the same family photograph well together without matching exactly; large logos and busy patterns pull the eye away from faces. Comfort matters most for the children.
How many photographs do we get?
A small, carefully edited set. The intention is the ones worth printing and keeping, rather than a folder of hundreds you will never open.
What time of day is best?
It depends on the light and on your children. Late afternoon is usually kindest to both, but a nap schedule beats golden hour every time — tell me theirs and we will work around it.
